area of studies

A Turkish businessman commissioned a feasibility study on the development of a Tourist Ecological Village in southern Turkey. A team was formed that included a specialist on alternative energy, one on permaculture, and another on organic farming. Several selected sites were evaluated near the coast. Local expertise was consulted and local advice was incorporated into the work.

The characteristics of each site were carefully considered: solar orientation, the micro climate, seasonal wind velocities and direction, availability of hydro power, local power sources, soil conditions, site accessibility, labor force and skills, local architecture, construction means and methods to arrive at a conceptual schedule and cost parameters.

The prime intent of the project was to honor, observe and promote local traditions in life, work and as expressed through indigenous architecture, and to share this experience with eco tourists in a way that demonstrated sustainable development.

“Visioning" sessions and subsequent discussions of the spiritual intent led to ideas of social and economic organization and integration. The results were instructive in considering the physical form of the proposed village.
